ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS HAVING A COW OVER LIVE NATIVITIES

SILVER SPRING, Md. (Wireless Flash) -- If you want to get the goat of an animal rights activist, use live animals in your church's nativity scene. A group called the Fund For Animals is having a cow over churches who use live animals in their nativity scenes. Group spokesman Norm Phelps says many animals used in live nativities are kept in cramped conditions where they're exposed to the elements. Even worse: The cows, sheep and goats in the scenes are forced to deal with humans unfamiliar with livestock who assume farm animals are just like cats and dogs. Phelps says no church would make a newborn infant play Baby Jesus in sub-zero conditions, and it isn't fair to force animals to perform under the same conditions.
