TODAY'S LIBRARIANS PREFER TATTOOS TO TIGHT BUNS

WASHINGTON (Wireless Flash) -- A hip librarian in Washington, D.C. wants to change the image that most librarians wear horn-rimmed glasses and tightly-wound hairdos. Chuck Munson says many of today's librarians are young punk rockers, activists and "zine" publishers who prefer tattoos over tight buns. He admits there are still a few librarians who fit the old uptight schoolmarm stereotype -- but more and more new recruits are tattooed and pierced rebels who want to further free speech. One more surprising librarian trait: Munson claims librarians are getting a reputation for being big party animals and many drink a lot.
