BLIND EXPLORER SET SIGHTS ON SOUTH POLE

PUNTA ARENAS, Chile (Wireless Flash) -- A 52-year-old man from Duffield, England, has his sights set on becoming the first blind man to reach the South Pole. Starting November 9, Miles Hilton-Barber will be traveling across Antarctica with a team of explorers in hopes of reaching the South Pole by January 11. Hilton-Barber works for the Royal National Institute for the Blind and in order to "see" Antarctica, he'll risk frostbite by taking his gloves off and feeling various spots on the terrain. The blind explorer won't be the only one who'll be in the dark during the expedition -- he's expecting a lot of "white-outs," which means no one else on his team will see anything either.
