FRINGE CANDIDATES STILL IN RUNNING

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (Wireless Flash) -- Al Gore and George W. Bush may be running neck and neck, but some fringe candidates still think they have a chance. Case in point: 42-year-old Michael Strauss, who's running for president under "Mike's Party." He thinks since voter participation is usually low, it's a sign people are obeying his slogan: "Vote for Mike or don't vote at all." Another candidate, 55-year-old "Dr. Da-Vid," advocates the legalization of pot and is already declaring victory because he believes "the party with the highest vision is the one that really wins." The most realistic of the bunch is a 57-year-old candidate for the Lettuce Party named "Felix." He's conceding the election because he was unable to interest enough Americans in his pet issue: Getting Pete Rose into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
