MIGHT AS WELL FACE IT: YOU'RE ADDICTED TO SPORTS

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Wireless Flash) -- There's a lot more riding on the upcoming Subway Series than who wins or loses - - millions of fans' egos are also on the line. That's according to Indiana University psychologist Edward Hirt, who says sports addicts suffer big swings in their own self-esteem depending on their favorite team's performance. His research shows fans are less likely to think a member of the opposite sex will be attracted to them when their team loses. By contrast, fans are more convinced they're good looking if their team wins. Hirt says sports addiction can have such an impact on a fan's ego that he or she will need professional counseling.
