PEANUT BUTTER TOUTED AS A DIET AID

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Wireless Flash) -- Here's proof fat can be a dieter's best friend: Peanut butter may be an effective appetite suppressant. A new study by researchers at Purdue University shows snacking on fatty peanut butter is an effective way to control hunger pangs without gaining extra weight. People who consumed peanut butter in the study didn't become hungry again for two-and-a-half hours, compared to rice cake eaters who became hungry after 30 minutes. More good news: The study also shows chomping on chocolate or almonds also controls hunger for at least two hours after eating. Researcher Richard Mattes says the findings are significant because they challenge the belief that high fat foods always cause weight gain.
