WEIRD WORDS OF THE PAST

WEIRD WORDS OF THE PAST

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash) -- This should quench your thirst for knowledge: There's actually a word for the booze left behind in bottles and glasses. According to San Francisco-based word expert Jeffrey Kacirk, folks in merry old England referred to liquor left in glasses and bottles as "heel-taps." Other weird words from the past include... -- "Slottering," which is when you make animal-like noises when eating. -- "Dwanging" is forcing someone to do too much work. -- A "climactarian" is someone who likes having climaxes. -- Finally, the term "cock-throppled" refers to a man whose Adam's apple is larger than normal. Kacirk is the author of the upcoming book, "The Word Museum" (Touchstone Books).
