ROMANCE WRITERS FIND CAPTIVE AUDIENCE: PRISONERS

SEATTLE (Wireless Flash) -- Looks like romance writers are finding a captive audience in American prisons. That's according to romance writer Susan Wiggs, who admits she's gotten quite a few letters from jailbirds in correctional institutes. One imprisoned fan wrote to tell her that a character in one of her novels has given him the courage to not break up with his girlfriend once he's sprung from the pen. Wiggs says correctional institutes love the books because they show ordinary people solving problems without resorting to violence. Wiggs will be a keynote speaker at the Romance Writers of America, which starts next Wednesday (Jul. 26) in Washington, D.C.
