MASSAGE THERAPISTS FIND ARMPITS THE PITS

PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash) -- Do armpits rub you the wrong way? You're not alone: Many massage therapists also think armpits are the pits. It seems most massage therapists avoid touching armpits because they contain extra-sensitive nerves which can cause discomfort if they're not stroked just right. According to Adela Basayne of the American Massage Therapy Association, inexperienced therapists who rub underarms run the risk of pinching nerves, which can provide a painful shock during a rubdown. But there are times an armpit massage may be a good idea. Basayne says rubbing the area properly can relieve pain caused by frozen shoulders, muscle spasms and some sports injuries.
