TISSUE DONORS' SKIN ENDING UP IN SOCIALITES' LIPS

DALLAS (Wireless Flash) -- Here's something to think about if you're an organ donor -- your skin may end up in some socialite's lips. It seems the hot new trend in plastic surgery is plumping up lips using skin harvested from deceased tissue donors. The practice is being frowned upon by the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations, which says most donors aren't told their skin might wind up being used for cosmetic surgery instead of life-saving operations. A spokeswoman calls skin harvesting "wrong" because skin-processing laboratories are making hundreds of thousands of dollars while donor families never see a dime. The group is now working to get the cadaver skin lip implants regulated by the government -- or possibly banned. In the meantime, if you don't want your skin to end up in a starlet's lips, make sure you specify so when filling out organ donation forms.
