KOREAN MELODY MAKERS USING POTS AND PANS

SEOUL, S. Korea (Wireless Flash) -- Most folks wouldn't want to spend five minutes listening to pots and pans banging around -- but South Koreans can't get enough of it. The latest theater craze in Seoul these days is a stage musical that features chefs creating "music" by banging away on all sorts of kitchen utensils. The pantomime play is called "Nanta" -- Korean for "random beating -- and follows the story of four cooks who are rushing to prepare a last-minute wedding banquet. As they chop, whisk and stir, the chefs break out into clinking drumbeats a la those "I want my baby back ribs" commercials for Chilis restaurants. The show has acquired such a following that a theater named in its honor will open later this month in Seoul.
