HAL DAVID CREDITS OASIS FOR COMEBACK

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Lyricist Hal David is saying a little prayer to Oasis for helping Gen Xers rediscover the music he made with Burt Bacharach. David -- who wrote the lyrics to "I Say A Little Prayer," "Close To You," and "Raindrops Are Falling On My Head" -- says until a few years ago, the "in crowd" ignored his work. But after Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher praised Bacharach and David, other rock stars followed and the duo's songs were soon featured in "My Best Friend's Wedding, ""Austin Powers" and TV shows like "Ally McBeal." David now hears his songs all the time -- including some horrible versions in karaoke bars. Still, he says he's happy to hear his songs sung even when the vocalists don't "...sound as good as Dionne Warwick."
