THE TRAGIC DEATH OF ARNOLD ZIFFEL

THE TRAGIC DEATH OF ARNOLD ZIFFEL

ELM GROVE, Wis. (Wireless Flash) -- If you're a fan of Arnold Ziffel, the pig on "Green Acres," this story will leave you hog- tied. According to hog historian Sara Rath, Arnold was spoiled by success -- literally. It seems the hog was so crucial to "Green Acres," that producers wouldn't shoot any scenes until he was ready -- even if it meant stars Eva Gabor and Eddie Albert had to wait. Arnold lived high on the hog until he hit 90 pounds -- then he was put out to pasture and replaced with a younger, hunkier hog. Even more shocking: Rath claims Arnold's trainer was planning to eat him when he died, but a power outage caused Arnold's carcass to spoil and he was thrown in the trash. Rath is the author of the new book, "The Complete Pig" (Voyageur Press).
