KIDS TINTING CONTACT LENSES WITH FOOD COLORING

ST. LOUIS (Wireless Flash) -- Rebellious teens who tint their contact lenses with food coloring are looking for trouble. That's according to the American Optometric Association, which says the fad has resulted in a rash of young folks showing up in doctors' offices after dying their lenses. The homemade colored lenses are usually dyed blue or red and can cause blurred vision due to irritation from the food color dyes. Optometrist Robert L. Davis also warns that food coloring can contain germs and other contaminants that could cause eye infections.
