CAN 1 MILLION CYBER MONKEYS COMPOSE SHAKESPEARE?

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- You've probably heard that if you set one million monkeys in front of one million keyboards one will eventually type a Shakespearian sonnet. Well, although no one's ever gathered enough monkeys to test the theory, an 8th grader in San Francisco says he's going to figure it out using virtual monkeys and a computer program. 14-year-old Samuel Schreiber has programmed a computer that allows his cyber-chimps to type random letters and when any of them create real words, they're rewarded with a "banana." So far, none of the monkeys have typed any poetry, but Schreiber figures it's only a matter of time. A scientific research group known as the Search for Intelligent Monkeys on the Internet (SIMI) likes the project so much, it has given the 8th grader an award.
