RAGGEDY ANN CELEBRATES 85TH BIRTHDAY

ARCOLA, Ill. (Wireless Flash) -- You wouldn't believe it by looking at her, but Raggedy Ann is turning 85 years old. The storybook character was created in 1915 by cartoonist Johnny Gruelle, who created the red-haired rag doll to entertain his ailing daughter. Gruelle created Ann's equally-famous brother, Raggedy Andy, five years later. Tomorrow (May 20), the Raggedy Ann & Andy Museum in Gruelle's hometown of Arcola, Illinois, will celebrate by holding a birthday party for the rag dolls, including a parade where folks will dress up like Raggedy Ann and Andy.
