4:20 P.M. ON APRIL 20 IS `HOLIDAY' FOR POT SMOKERS

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash) -- Don't be surprised if you see clouds of marijuana today (Apr. 20) at 4:20 p.m. For some reason, the time of 4:20 p.m. on April 20 (4-20) has taken on a new meaning with pot smokers, who celebrate the annual event with a toke or two. A spokesman for National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws says evidence suggests the ritual started in 1971 after high school students in San Rafael, California, made plans to meet at 4:20 to investigate an abandoned pot patch. Marijuana enthusiasts have since adopted "4:20" as a code word for getting high, and one San Diego radio station even celebrates "4:20" by playing reggae music everyday at that time.
