`MOON BUGGIES' WILL HIT EARTH FRIDAY

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Wireless Flash) -- There's not much use for a lunar rover on Earth -- but don't tell that to the students competing in NASA's "Great Moonbuggy Race" this weekend. On Friday and Saturday (Apr. 7 and 8), students from 40 high schools and colleges will ride their model moon cars over a simulated moonscape complete with lava ridges, craters, rocks and fake lunar soil. Organizers say the vehicles range from high tech titanium rigs to clunky soapbox derby cars made out of old bicycle parts. The students who finish the 7-minute race first will win a trip to watch an upcoming space shuttle launch.
