WILLARD SCOTT CELEBRATES 50 YEARS IN SHOW BUSINESS

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Tomorrow (Mar. 28) marks a heavy day for portly Willard Scott: It's his 50th anniversary in show business. On March 28, 1950, the former "Today Show" weatherman started his first day at NBC as a page at WRC, the network's Washington, D.C. station. However, Scott got his first real career boost in 1959 when Bozo the Clown creator Larry Harmon hired him to play Bozo. Although the station manager was skeptical that Scott would make a good Bozo, Harmon had a gut feeling and gave him a 24-hour crash course in clowning. Unfortunately, Harmon hired Scott the day before his wedding, which meant he spent his honeymoon in clown makeup. NBC will celebrate Scott's 50th anniversary in show business with a special feature on tomorrow's "Today Show."
