HOW TO STIFF A RESTAURANT FOR THE BILL

DETROIT (Wireless Flash) -- If you want to get your next restaurant meal for free, just order a dish with peanuts and then fake an allergic reaction. That's the advice of professional waiter Mick Shaw, author of the new book, "Beating The Check" (Loompanics), which describes all sorts of techniques that can help you get a free meal. Shaw knows one man who gets free meals by ordering a steak extra rare and eating it with his bare hands. Once he grosses out the other customers, Shaw says the restaurant gladly pays for the meal just to get him to leave. Another trick works at restaurants that use computers to tabulate the bill. Just order dessert after the bill arrives because many waiters would rather give you a free dessert than ring up a new bill. Shaw also says griping to the manager works -- especially if you refuse to leave until your meal is free.
