SAM THE BUTCHER SHARPENING POETRY SKILLS

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- "Sam the butcher" from the Brady Bunch may soon become known as "Sam the poet." Allan Melvin, the actor who played Sam and also provided the voice of Magilla Gorilla, retired a few years ago and now spends much of his time composing "modern day nursery rhymes." The 77-year-old Melvin has composed 150 poems and is considering publishing them, possibly using the name of his "Brady Bunch" character. One poem is titled "Bill's Oval Office" and goes something like this: "At times there is wisdom in keeping the door locked/ Like at high level meetings and policy changes/ Or when Bill's there with Monica getting his hat blocked." Next month Melvin, Casey Kasem and other cartoon voiceover artists will hold a seminar at the Museum of Radio and Television.
