GRAMMY'S FIRST WINNER WAS SHAFTED AT CEREMONY

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Although most of today's hottest acts are expected at tonight's Grammy Award ceremony, it wasn't always that way. In 1958, singer Keely Smith and then-hubby Louis Prima's rendition of "That Old Black Magic" won the very first Grammy for Best Performance by a Vocal Group Or Duo. However, Smith and Prima were never told about the nomination and didn't find out they were winners until days after the ceremony. Smith -- who is best known for singing "Jump, Jive And Wail" in the jitterbugging Gap TV ads -- currently keeps her Grammy in storage while her Palm Springs home is being refurbished. Although she's proud of the award, she hopes her upcoming CD, "Sing, Sing, Sing," will win her another Grammy next year. That's not the only project on Smith's plate. She's currently working on a movie-bio of her life and is considering Winona Ryder for the leading role and either Robert DeNiro or Nicolas Cage to play Prima.
