`STAR TREK' FANS WANT SULU SERIES

CLEVELAND, Ohio (Wireless Flash) -- "Star Trek" fans are going boldly where no fans have gone before: they're demanding the creation of a new TV series which would star George Takei -- aka "Sulu." Members of the so-called "Excelsior Campaign" are asking fans to write letters to Paramount Studios requesting a "Star Trek" series based on Sulu's adventures as captain of the "U.S.S. Excelsior." Campaign organizer Russ Haslage claims recent "Star Trek "series like "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Deep Space 9" have been so bad that series creator Gene Roddenberry must be "turning over in his grave." Although Paramount Studios has no official comment, a few high-ranking executives reportedly have endorsed the campaign. Takei says he's not only interested in doing the series, he's been lobbying producers to do this show for almost 10 years.
