PHOTOGRAPH OF CIVIL WAR CROSS DRESSER ON AUCTION BLOCK

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- The Civil War was a real drag for some women -- literally. Next Monday, a photograph of a female who fought in the Civil War disguised as a man will be auctioned at the Swann Gallery in New York for an estimated $3000. The cross-dressing soldier was named Jennie Rodgers and she fought for the Union under the name "Albert Cashier" for three years. Rodgers apparently liked dressing up as a man because she lived her life as one until 1910 when her true gender was discovered after she was in an auto accident. The "drag king" revelation caused a nationwide scandal long before the "Don't ask, don't tell" controversy, but Rodgers received a full military funeral when she died in 1915.
