FOGHAT LEAD SINGER DEAD FROM CANCER

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- "Lonesome" Dave Peverett -- the lead singer of the '70s-era rock group, Foghat -- has died from kidney cancer at the age of 57. Peverett, who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, died in a Florida hospital yesterday morning (Feb. 7) after contracting double pneumonia. Amazingly, the band -- best known for hits like "Slow Ride" -- owes part of its success to Peverett's love of Scrabble. In fact, he once claimed he invented the word, "foghat," during "a demented game of Scrabble." No word on funeral arrangements but an announcement will be forthcoming.
