ARCTIC EARTHLINGS TO SIMULATE LIFE ON MARS

DEVON ISLAND, Canada (Wireless Flash) -- A group of scientists hopes to bring a little bit of Mars to planet Earth this summer. In July, scientists from NASA and the Mars Society will travel to an ancient crater north of the Arctic Circle where the climate and terrain is similar to Mars. The researchers will spend at least a week living inside a weatherproof structure to see how humans might handle life on the Red Planet. Darlene Lim of the Mars Society says the goal of the project is to find out just what the average human will need to survive on Mars -- from food to communication tools to robotic vehicles. The organization hopes the results of the Mars simulation will convince NASA to send humans to Mars one day.
