`TOFU TURKEYS' TO BE OFFERED TO HOMELESS

NORFOLK, Va. (Wireless Flash) -- The recent arrests of New York City's homeless have many folks fighting for the homeless' civil rights -- now an animal activist group is fighting for their vegetarian rights. People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) claims many homeless vegetarians are left out in the cold this time of year by shelters and soup kitchens that don't serve meatless meals. To help out, the organization is offering free "tofu turkeys" to 350 homeless shelters across the U.S. A PETA spokesperson says the meatless turkeys will make sure homeless vegetarians don't have to make a holiday meal out of skimpy side dishes. But the group may be overestimating the number of homeless tofu turkey fans. Eva Vargas of the San Diego Rescue Mission says she rarely comes across homeless vegetarians, and says most of the needy people she serves are eager to sink their teeth into real meat.
