HISTORIAN: `KING AND I' IS A LIE

OXFORD, Ohio (Wireless Flash) -- The romance depicted in "The King and I" musical is a big fat lie, according to an English professor in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Susan Morgan says even though King Mongkut of Siam (which is now Thailand) and British governess Anna Leonowens worked together for six years, they were never involved romantically. She claims the King would never have been attracted to a foreigner who was twice the age of the women in his harem. However, that hasn't stopped romantic depictions of the two historical characters in Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King And I" and Jodie Foster's new film, "Anna And The King." These days, the Thai people are so offended by the false stories, that the country has virtually banned any books or movies concerning the couple. Dr. Morgan will appear in "Famous Families: Anna And The King, The True Story," a documentary airing December 13 on the Fox Family Channel.
