`KUNG FU FIGHTING' HIT NO. 1 25 YEARS AGO (DEC. 7)

HAMBURG, Germany (Wireless Flash) -- Today (Dec. 7) is the 25th anniversary of the day "Kung Fu Fighting" hit No. 1 on the charts. Remembering the date well is Jamaican soul singer Carl Douglas who held the No. 1 spot for two weeks in 1974. Douglas -- who actually practices kung fu -- claims the song was intended to be a B-side single, but he secretly knew it would become a hit. Unfortunately, once "Kung Fu Fighting" became a worldwide smash, Douglas was pigeon-holed as "that kung fu" singer and he was forced to record a follow-up clunker called "Dance The Kung Fu." These days, the 57-year-old Douglas lives in Hamburg, Germany, and he still performs regularly throughout Europe -- but he's considering making a U.S. comeback. He claims the biggest hurdle to his comeback may be convincing Americans he's not the same Carl Douglas who served on O.J. Simpson's defense team.
