GERMAN COUPLE SHUT OUT OF MILLENNIUM WEDDING

STEWART ISLAND, N.Z. (Wireless Flash) -- A German couple who had hoped to become the first couple married in the new millennium is out of luck because they couldn't book a flight to New Zealand. Michael Maier and his bride-to-be, Melanie, had planned a midnight ceremony on Stewart Island in New Zealand, which is one of the first geographic spots to ring in the New Year. The local justice of the peace, Gwen Neave, says Michael and Melanie had to pull the plug on their plans because all flights from Germany to New Zealand are booked. But Neave still hopes to conduct the millennium's first wedding. She's currently corresponding with a Hong Kong couple who hopefully can book a flight to New Zealand.
