CARRY-ON BAGS TO CAUSE BUMPY RIDE FOR HOLIDAY TRAVELERS

WASHINGTON (Wireless Flash) -- Going home for the holidays may turn into a confusing nightmare for many. That's the prediction of the Luggage and Leather Goods Manufacturers Association, which thinks 1999 could be a banner year for luggage mix-ups thanks to new carry-on bag policies. Association president Anne DeCicco (duh-SEEK-oh) says many infrequent travelers are unaware of new restrictions on the size and number of carry-on bags, which vary from airline to airline. The hodgepodge of rules can spell disaster for those who plan on shoehorning luggage, shopping bags and holiday presents into the overhead compartments. DeCicco's advice? Either check in your presents for storage in the cargo bay or mail them in advance. In addition, be sure to call the airline in advance to find out just how much luggage you're permitted to carry on.
