ROTTEN PIG INNARDS: A FOOD ADVENTURE

BERKELEY, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- How does an appetizer of rotten pig innards sound to you? It's a delicacy in Laos, according to culinary expert Richard Sterling, editor of the upcoming book "The Adventure of Food" (Travelers' Tales). The "Indiana Jones of Cuisine" says a paste made of rotting pig parts is a specialty in Laos -- and for good reason. The pig slime is more nutritious than a McDonald's hamburger and reportedly tastes just like a fancy French cheese. Sterling also recommends fire-ant soup, which contains doughy, white ant pupae that he claims taste like "lemony pieces of pasta." Despite his gut-wrenching diet, Sterling claims he hasn't had a serious case of food poisoning in the past 20 years he's been eating around the globe.
