THE TRUTH BEHIND CAROL BURNETT'S FAMOUS `CURTAIN ROD' DRESS

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Designer Bob Mackie is revealing the truth about the famous "curtain rod" dress he made for Carol Burnett: it ended up in the incinerator. Burnett wore the velour dress made from a real set of curtains in a "Carol Burnett Show ""Gone With the Wind" spoof which is now considered one of the best comedy skits of all time. However, at the time the skit aired, Mackie says he thought the dress would never be used again -- so off it went to the trash. The designer has come to regret his decision in recent years, so he's made a few knockoffs of the dress for places like Planet Hollywood to put on display. In fact, one of Mackie's copies of the curtain rod dress will be featured next week at an exhibit of the designer's work at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology.
