MAN WANTS TO ABOLISH HIGH SCHOOL

PHILADELPHIA (Wireless Flash) -- Teenagers should be happy to hear this: there's a man in Philadelphia who wants to abolish high school. Thomas Hine, author of the new book "The Rise and Fall of the American Teenager" (Bard), claims high school is a waste of time for most kids. He says the reading, writing and 'rithmetic can be helpful to those who want to go to college, but kids who have non- academic ambitions often feel left out in high school. Although Hine would like to see the present high school system scrapped, it's doubtful many teens would like his proposed alternative: kids would be required to start working at the age of 13. Hine claims kids would learn a lot more about life from working a 9-to-5 job than they do now sitting in a class school all day.
