CONSPIRACY FLAP OVER SWAT TEAM RIOT GEAR

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Wireless Flash) -- A company that manufactures body armor using the name "NATO" is having a hard time shielding itself from conspiracy theorists. Recent internet rumors have suggested that NATO -- the North Atlantic Treaty Organization -- may be involved with U.S. police agencies who are using shields marked with the term "NATO." Conspiracy theorists think it's all part of a scheme in which NATO will take over the world and run it through a single government. But it turns out there's a simple explanation for the word "NATO" appearing on the shields. According to the Florida manufacturer of the shields, Armor Holdings, the term "NATO" refers to the type of ammunition it best repels -- a bullet known as the "NATO Ball Round 308." A spokesperson says most law enforcement know what a NATO round is, but this is the first time anyone has suggested the shields have a connection to the NATO organization.
