57-YEAR-OLD CLEANING LADY IS ENGLAND'S HOTTEST NEW STAR

CARDIFF, Wales (Wireless Flash) -- A Welsh washerwoman is cleaning up in the British TV ratings as the country's hottest new star. She's 57-year-old Maureen Rees, and she's become the British equivalent of the "I've fallen and I can't get up!" lady who appeared on American TV commercials several years ago. The catchphrase that has catapulted Maureen to fame is "I think I can. I know I can. I must!" She frequently repeats the line in a new BBC documentary which follows her quest to get a driver's license. Now, wherever Maureen goes, folks are stopping her on the street and asking her to repeat the phrase. She says the best encounter she's had so far was the time a group of "....quite attractive lads..." came up to her and kissed her on her cheeks. Maureen says she's enjoying her brush with showbiz so much that she's planning to pursue a career in cartoon voice-overs. The documentary featuring Maureen -- "Real Soap: Driving School" -- will air on BBC America September 13 through 17.
