HOLLYWOOD URGED TO PRODUCE MORE GAY FILMS

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- A Los Angeles-based group hopes to persuade Hollywood studios into producing more gay-themed motion pictures. The group -- called "The Queer First Weekend Club" -- is encouraging its members to buy tickets to gay films the first weekend they're released since films with big opening grosses tend to stay in theaters longer. The club is similar to a campaign in the African-American community that's credited with turning "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" into a summer sleeper last year. So far, there are Queer First Weekend Clubs in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, but organizer John Cooper predicts it will eventually spread across America.
