MEET THE OPENING ACT FROM THE ORIGINAL WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- You probably won't recognize the name "Nansi Nevins," but she's a historical figure to Woodstock fans. Back in 1969, Nevins was the lead singer of Sweetwater, the very first rock band to perform at the Woodstock Festival. At the time, Sweetwater was chosen to be what Nevins calls the "official soundcheck band of Woodstock." Although she says the concert was a gas, leaving the site wasn't because the band's helicopter ran out of fuel, forcing the pilot to land on an airplane hanger. The pilot then walked away, leaving the band to fend for itself in the middle of the night. Sadly, Nevins and Sweetwater weren't able to capitalize on Woodstock because, four months after the show, she was hit by a drunk driver and suffered injuries that led to the band's break- up and its ultimate fall into obscurity. However, Sweetwater has reunited and a TV-movie about the group will premiere August 15 on VH-1.
