`I DREAM OF JEANNIE' SONGWRITER SAYS SWING REVIVAL IS BOGUS

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- Gen X trendoids won't want to hear this: The so-called "swing revival" is nothing but hype and it never occurred. That's according to songwriter Buddy Kaye, who is best known for co-writing the "I Dream Of Jeannie" theme song. Kaye concedes that a couple of acts like Brian Setzer and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies have tasted a small amount of success, but he maintains there's no modern-day audience for swing music because the youngsters like what he calls "flip-flop music." According to Kaye, even Tony Bennett sells more CDs at his senior-citizen-populated shows than in record stores -- despite being hyped as a "Gen X icon." Although he would like to see a honest-to-goodness swing revival, Kaye predicts swing music will continue to decline until it's as unpopular as opera.
