LEAPING LIZARDS TO TAKE THE TRACK

LOVINGTON, N.M. (Wireless Flash) -- You've heard of greyhound races -- but what about lizard races? It's no joke. The 24th Annual World's Greatest Lizard Race will take place this Saturday (July 3) in Lovington, New Mexico. Hundreds of lizards will compete on a 16-foot plexiglass track in hopes of being declared the World's Fastest Lizard. Lizard Race founder John Graham admits it's a ruthless race and it's not uncommon for contestants to bite their fellow racers. Lizard trainers are allowed to urge their lizards along by tickling them with a feather -- but any other prodding or poking is frowned upon.
