POPSICLES HAVE CHILLING EFFECT ON BABY'S SKIN

FRESH MEADOWS, NY (Wireless Flash) -- Parents of young children, beware: Popsicles might leave a mark on your kids. According to New York-based dermatologist Dr. Joshua Fox, the frozen summertime treat can cause infants to develop something called "Popsicle panniculitis" -- a condition that leaves red, hard patches on an infant's cheeks. Babies who suck on frozen treats for at least ten minutes are the most prone to the skin disorder -- although the ailment is fairly rare. No one knows exactly why it occurs, but it may have something to do with fat tissue in newborns that hardens faster in cold conditions than the fat of older children. Although "Popsicle panniculitis" can make your baby blotchy, Dr. Fox says it's not a serious condition and it usually clears up on its own within a few weeks.
