STEPHEN KING'S ACCIDENT BOOSTS SINGING CAREER

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash) -- Horror writer Stephen King's recent car accident is having an unexpected effect on his pet hobby, singing. It seems King fans have been flooding radio stations with phone calls demanding that deejays play King's rendition of the 1960 hit "Stand By Me." According to Kathi Goldmark, whose record label recently released the track on an album of writer-sung tunes called "Stranger Than Fiction", many radio stations are playing the song to encourage folks to "Stand By Stephen" through his crisis. Goldmark -- who claims King sounds a little like Johnny Cash -- says she's jazzed about the rising popularity of the song because it's a sign fans are thinking about the horror writer. King's doctors say he has several months of recovery ahead of him.
