BANANA SPLITS LATEST '60S ICONS TO MAKE COMEBACK

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash) -- Cher's recent comeback is having an effect on other 1960s-era icons. Now comes word the former Saturday morning cartoon band known as the Banana Splits are planning a comeback. At one point, the "Banana Splits Theme Song" hit No. 95 on the U.S. charts and later became a U.K. hit for the punk group, The Dickies. Next year the bubble gum rock band -- which is made up entirely of four people wearing fuzzy animal suits -- will appear in an interactive cartoon on the Cartoon Network website. The "web toon" will feature all the Splits: namely Fleagle the Beagle; Drooper the Lion; Bingo the Gorilla and Snorky the Elephant. However, unlike the original series, it will be completely animated. Still, a Cartoon Network spokesperson promises the experience will be just as "psychedelic" as the original series, which ran from 1968 to 1970.
