SMITHEREENS SINGER REVIVING `SONG-POEM' GENRE

SMITHEREENS SINGER REVIVING `SONG-POEM' GENRE

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Smithereens lead singer Pat DiNizio has found a unique side job: he's charging folks $500 to put music to their lyrics and poems. DiNizio says he was inspired to start putting music to poems after seeing those ads that invite would-be poets to submit poems. Some so-called "song poems" from the '60s and '70s have become cult items among alternative rockers, and DiNizio admits they're some of the wildest things he's ever heard. He hopes to record some of the "song-poems" on an upcoming album tentatively titled "Strangers On A Refrain." Although $500 may seem a bit steep, DiNizio insists the fee barely covers his cost of studio time.
