BLACK GOLD: MAN OWNS WORLD'S LARGEST COLLECTION OF OIL CANS

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- There's gold in them thar cans -- at least if they're antique motor oil cans. Old oil cans are now worth big bucks according to retired building contractor Fred Stoke, who owns the world's largest collection of antique oil cans. The 64-year-old Stoke has been stockpiling old cans for years, and now has more than 9,000 in his collection -- which he estimates is worth around $200,000. Although most of the cans are worth $20-$50 each, the rarer ones can fetch up to $1500 -- such as a 1930s-era PDQ brand can which feature a pelican design. Amazingly, most of the old cans still have oil in them. Stoke says oil can collecting is becoming especially popular these days with Gen Xers, who are snatching up all sorts of old service station memorabilia.
