MINNESOTA ZOO TO HONOR 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF APE ESCAPE

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Wireless Flash) -- It may sound bananas but a zoo in Minneapolis will be holding a party later today to honor the anniversary of an escaped ape. At 11 a.m. Central time, the Como Zoo will hold a party to honor the 5th anniversary of the day "Casey the Lowland Gorilla" climbed out of his enclosure and strolled around the zoo's grounds. Although Casey was captured and hasn't "jumped ship" since, zoo spokesperson Jennifer Lauerman claims the ape escape is still a hot topic for zoo visitors. The zoo will celebrate by having humans wearing gorilla costumes retrace Casey's steps, while the real gorillas will get a suitcase filled with fruit, hats, sunglasses, and toy cameras. Lauerman admits throwing a party for an escaped ape is unusual, but she doubts it will give other gorillas the impression that its okay to escape.
