$1 MILLION PRICE TAG FOR MILLENNIUM'S FIRST SUNRISE

$1 MILLION PRICE TAG FOR MILLENNIUM'S FIRST SUNRISE

PITT ISLAND, New Zealand (Wireless Flash) -- The first sunrise of the millenium could be worth millions of dollars to a New Zealand farmer. 62-year-old Kenneth Lanauze hopes to make at least $1 million by selling the exclusive rights to televise the first sunrise of the next century from his 1000-acre farm. According to the London Geographical Society, a hill on Lanauze's property will be the first spot on Earth to receive sunlight on January 1, 2000. The farmer admits $1 million is a bit steep for a sunrise, but he figures the TV network that buys the rights will make its costs back by charging other outlets for footage of the sunrise. Lanauze and his son, Robert, are entertaining bids from media around the globe, but they don't want to hear any lowball figures. According to Robert: "We're getting lots of calls from twits who are offering amounts that are a joke."
