LAWSUIT COULD LEAVE ARBOR DAY UP A TREE

BEREA, Kentucky (Wireless Flash) -- Today (Apr. 30) is Arbor Day but a court battle is leaving the holiday up a tree for one group. A non-profit charity called Ecology Crossroads claims it was forced to cancel a tree giveaway after being sued by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The Arbor Day Foundation filed the suit in an attempt to stop Ecology Crossroads from using the words "Arbor Day" on its website and in its phone number. Arbor Day president John Rosenow claims the legal action is necessary to keep folks from becoming confused over which group is the official Arbor Day organizer. Meanwhile, Ecology Crossroads president David Wright claims the foundation is just trying to monopolize the term "Arbor Day" which he believes should be in the public domain like "Christmas Day." Wright hopes a judge will dismiss the suit but admits that, for now, his organization is stumped over the future of Arbor Day.
