TELEPHONE COLLECTOR: HOBBY HAS FEW HANG-UPS

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- A California man has discovered a hobby with few hang-ups -- he collects antique telephones. Dan Golden has been collecting old phones for 38 years and currently owns 500 telephones and the parts from about 2000 more. His most unusual phone is an 1821 device that looks like two wooden cans with a string between them. Golden says the phone sounds good and has a potential range of three miles. Another freaked-out phone is a 1905 model that hangs from the ceiling and requires users to pull it down before making a call. He also owns an 1877 phone that was personally made by Alexander Graham Bell and rare phones shaped like Superman, Ronald McDonald and Charlie Tuna. Although Golden loves his phone collection, he admits cleaning them doesn't exactly ring his bell. In fact, he has so many that he uses a leaf blower to dust them.
