MARIJUANA MYSTERY REVEALED: SECRET SIGNIFICANCE OF `4:20'

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Have you ever heard marijuana enthusiasts giggle about the phrase "4:20?" It turns out the term has real significance, according to "High Times" magazine editor-in-chief Steven Hager, who claims "4:20" is a pot smoking version of England's "tea time" and is when many weedheads take their first puff of the day. Hager says the "4:20" ritual started back in 1971 among a group of San Rafael, California, high school students who made plans to meet at 4:20 p.m. to investigate an abandoned pot patch. Even though the term "4:20" is obscure, it became a "code word" that allowed pot smokers in the know to talk about getting high without getting busted. One San Diego radio station even celebrates "4:20" by playing reggae music everyday at exactly 4:20 p.m. Hager says pot smokers now view April 20 (or 4/20) as their version of Easter and a good day to smoke, meditate and, in his words, "share the good vibes."
